Big Skies and Vivid Sea/Landscapes
Living in Australia it’s pretty hard not to to be inspired by the drama of colour and light that unfolds every day.
For the most part, I am a self taught, semi-realist artist working from my studio in Sydney, Australia.
My work is driven by a fascination of nature and the delicate dance between sunlight and shadows, colour and light. I work mostly in acrylic on canvas, but also feel the urge to create water colour-like paintings using an acrylic wash on paper.
When I see something that captures my imagination it’s like a bell goes off. Bing! I have to stop, take a closer look and pull out my phone to capture the moment. That “bing” moment eventually finds itself into a painting in some shape or form.
I usually work from a photograph, but rarely paint it in its entirety. Rather, I mix and match subjects, skies, backgrounds and light with my imagination.
The easiest way to work a subject out of my system is to paint a collection of three or four works on one topic. Mind you, I have been known to go back and add a new painting or two a collection. Some things never seem to leave my system.
I hope you get as much joy out of my work and I do creating each piece.
